A while ago my friends at Somedays gallery had a self portrait competition. I did this illustration but I never entered the competition.

April 20, 2008A short post about a website I designed a while ago. This is for Of the Woods Distribution a Swedish distribution company that manly imports and sell snowboard and street wear. It can be found at www.ofthewoods.se.
I do retouch too
April 20, 2008Even though I by no means consider myself a photoshop-guy, I sometimes need to do retouching at work. So I thought I might share some of the stuff I have been struggling with. Here is a image from a shoot I art directed down at Bondi. It is used as a cover on a brochure.
This is before:
Here is after:
So, what did I do? The main things i did was add contrast, change the colours, make a nicer sky in the bakground, take away some of the darknes around the kids eyes and give him some more colour i the face so he looks less cold and make the guy behind look a bit less grumpy.
Close but… no chocolate?
April 19, 2008A few month ago I was contacted by a company intending to open a chocolate café in Kings Cross, Sydney called Chocola Café. They wanted an illustration to be printed on the wall in the café. The brief mentioned chocolate (of course) berries and romance. I did a quick sketch in pencil and emailed it to them with a quote. They liked it and wanted a new draft, along with a new quote for two illustrations.
This is the second draft I sent them. (pencil and coloured in Photoshop)

After this a long email exchange took place regarding new quotes. Totally I quoted them 6(!) times on different combinations of illustrations. It all ended with an email saying they decided to use another illustrator. I was a bit surprised but figured I unknowingly been involved in a pitch of some kind.
In the end the company reluctantly paid me a small sum for my work with the sketches.
The other day, by coincidence, I passed the café (not yet opened) and was very surprised to see that the other “illustrator” obviously had a very similar interpretation of the brief as I.
This is a photo taken from the street. What can I say…
